Dear Sponsor,

As a respected industry leader, we wanted to advise you of a program that addresses the workforce tshortage in our industry. Current and future shortages of skilled, knowledgeable workers require a continued commitment by all of us if we are going to reduce or eliminate this basic challenge. Please read on to learn how you and your firm can contribute to increasing awareness of construction careers to young women!

Mentoring a Girl in Construction “MAGIC”, Inc. is a FREE one-week day camp for high school age girls introducing them to the world of construction. MAGIC was established in 2007 in Gwinnett County, Ga. Since its founding, the organization has succeeded in implementing camps across the country, reaching over 1200 young ladies. Through education, mentoring, and networking opportunities MAGIC has seen results of this unique program with our graduates entering welding apprenticeship programs and continuing on a wide variety of college paths in engineering and other related majors.

MAGIC’s mission to encourage girls to enter this exciting career path, therefore is addressing the workforce shortage that faces our industry. In addition, MAGIC signed a partnering agreement with the National Association of Women in Construction “NAWIC” in 2009. This cooperative effort allows NAWIC chapters to host these free camps with guidance and oversight by MAGIC, Inc. This nationwide program embodies NAWIC’s core purpose to “Enhance the Success of Women in the Construction Industry”.

MAGIC develops a Safety First Attitude with safety Training on the opening day of each camp and all campers receive their own hard hat, safety Personal Protective Equipment, and are given a complete set of hand tools to keep. The full week of activities includes instruction by certified teachers coupled with hands on “projects” providing the young women with a sense of accomplishment, confidence and aptitude to learn more about construction careers. The week concludes with an onsite tour of a local “in progress” construction project and awards luncheon including local dignitaries, industry leaders, volunteers and parents.

We ask that you join in the “MAGIC” by donating your time, materials, or financial support to this worthwhile program! Please review the enclosed sponsorship form today and let us know that you “Believe in MAGIC” by lending support to this year’s local summer camps.

Sincerely,
Renee Conner, CIT
